The Kagyu centres of southern Africa are in the lineage of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje, head of the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. They are under the spiritual guidance of Dr Akong Tulku Rinpoche, founder of Kagyu Samye Ling Tibetan Centre in Scotland and have been active since the early 1970s. Rob Nairn is Akong Rinpoche’s representative in Africa.

Lam Rim Buddhist Centre South Africa. The centre's practice is centred on the system known as 'Lam Rim' - the graduated path, as founded by the Indian master Atisha and then arranged in a beautiful and accessible manner by Je Rinpoche - Lama Tsongkhapa.

Welcome to South Africa Friends of Tibet. We are committed to raising awareness of the Tibetan situation in South Africa and to supporting the Dalai Lama in his calls for international pressure on the People's Republic of China to engage in meaningful dialogue with his representatives to resolve the situation in Tibet.

2010 - The Tibet Society of South Africa, which has been established for 15 years, will be focusing on creating a general awareness regarding the situation in Tibet.
