Tamdrin ‘Mama’ Dadhon sold her family jewels, gathered the proceeds of the teahouse and with 300,000 Yuan and a lot of courage started Dickey´s Orphanage in Lhasa, Tibet´s capital on September 10th 2002. In Tibetan dickey means ‘fine’ and ‘happiness’. At the moment Dickey´s is home to 72 children. They all get lodging, tuition and medical aid. Because a lot of the children don´t know where or when they were born, September 10th is everybody´s birthday – a big party!

In the remote mountain highlands of Nangchen, Eastern Tibet, there exists an extraordinary lineage of female spiritual practitioners, which originated at Gebchak Gonpa. Many great Buddhist masters praise Gebchak Gonpa as being unrivalled in the training of spiritual practitioners. Its nuns are famed for their accomplishments in profound yogas and meditation, while their compassion and dedication to the Dharma are remarkable. It seems there are few monasteries these days that maintain such a level of practice - yet they remain little known outside of Tibet. The Tibetan Museum of Medicine and Cultural Heritage houses a collection of tangkha paintings (the world’s largest Tibetan art center) that reveal the world of the ancient and cultural traditions of Tibetan and the Himalayan region. This series extends for 618 meters (1900 feet) in length and 2.5 meters (9 feet) in width. The Tangkha is created in a remarkable setting under the close guidance of the renowned Tibetan painter Tsen-zhi-ra-jie together with other 400 artists from all over the Tibetan communities as well as artists from other nationalities to incorporate the designer’s concepts into the complete making of this artwork.
