Mustang, Mugu, Dolpa, Jumla, Manang and Humla regions are known as the Trans Himalayan region and border Tibet from the far northeast to the central part of Nepal. The inhabitants of this region are Tibetan in language and culture. The children at SRS come from this area with their villages located above 10,000 ft. (3,000 m). Because of the Tibetan Plateau landscape and the high elevation life is very harsh. Much of the year there is snow and temperature drops well below zero for long periods.
