Che-Thoe Men-Pai Lhen-Tsog - The Central Council of Tibetan Medicine (CCTM) was established on 5th Jan 2004 at Dharamsala, (H.P.) India. The monastery known as Chagpori was the first official medical college in Tibet. It was established in accordance with the explicit wish of the Great Fifth Dalai Lama in 1696 and was destroyed by the Chinese occupying forces in 1959. These pages will explain what Chagpori was, and has become, and how the late Dr. Trogawa Rinpoche, one of very few surviving doctors who had been trained in its system, worked for much of his life to see the lineage continued through re-establishing Chagpori in exile. In November 1992 with the blessings of HH the Dalai Lama, the new Chagpori Medical College - now known as Chagpori Tibetan Medical Institute (CTMI) - was inaugurated at Darjeeling, India, in commemoration of Chagpori, Lhasa, Tibet. Today, CTMI has fully-functioning college facilities in Takdah, including a small area for plant growing, clinics in Darjeeling town, Takdah and in Kurseong. Dr. Tendhon Amipa-Desam comes from an old, time-honoured tibetan patrician family and a dynasty of doctors and lamas, from the regional capital of Sakya in south Tibet. HDr. Tendhon Amipa-Desam is the first permanent doctor of Classical Tibetan Medicine in Switzerland, Germany, Austria and France. He graduated summa cum laude from famous elite acadey for Tibetan Medical Science at Dharamsala (India) after seven years of study and practical experience.
