The Society for the Preservation and Sharing of Himalayan Heritage (The Himalayan Society) was founded in 2001 by Sherab Lama and Alex Semilof, PhD and registered as a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization. The organization is non-political and non-religious in nature.

This sponsorship scheme was originally established to help support monks at Sera, and also their relative nuns or lay Tibetans (mostly children) who live nearby in camps, or in Jungchub Choeling Nunnery (about 200 kilometers away) in India. Today the scheme sponsors monks, nuns and lay Tibetans in India, as well as Nun at Nyagye Nunnery in Tibet and students at Gyalten Charity School in Tibet. The goal of Pure Inspiration is to support the Tibetan monks of Drepung Gomang monastic University by providing funds for food and medical needs. Pure Inspiration is currently working on the mission of Food Foundation Program and Medical Care project for the monks of Drepung Gomang Monastic University.

The School aims at producing a generation of well educated monks who will continue higher philosophical studies in the Monastic University after graduating from School and who will eventually graduate as Geshes preferably achieving top level Lharam Geshes Degree which is equivalent to Doctorate in Buddhist Studies in advanced Buddhist studies. These future new generation English speaking Geshes are expected to independently contribute hugely to spread of the Message of Kindness and Compassion and universal responsibility based on Buddhist Teachings.

Sera Jhe Health Care Committee was established in the year 1989 by then Khen Rinpoche Lobsang Tsering with the seed money donation of Rs 50,000 from His Holiness the Dalai Lama. It was registered as a charitable trust under the Karnataka registration act XXI of 1960. It is administered by five board members headed by the Abbot of Sera Jhe Monastery as its Chairman. It consists of voluntary staff from the Monastic community, who are experienced, dedicated and sincere to their duties.
